How to start autumn off right with our dogs
Finally, fall has arrived. This beautiful season is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor activities with the whole family. While enjoying the joys of cool days, it is important to keep in mind certain preventions and maintenance to do for your pet during this period.
Here are some tips to help you survive the fall with your companions.
Parasites
Unfortunately, some parasites can survive in the environment despite the colder temperatures. Let's talk mainly about ticks and fleas. Since fall is a good time for walking, it is important to inspect your pet carefully when they come home. Ticks can hide in damp places like the armpits, behind the ears or under the paws. As for fleas, they can be found anywhere on the animal. Good parasite prevention is recommended until the ground freezes to avoid any infestation. Talk to your veterinarian to see which prevention is ideal for your pet.
The molt
Hair loss is a natural part of the fall. You could say that our pets are getting a new skin! Proper grooming is the key to avoiding the frustration of hair accumulation in the house. To make grooming easier, we recommend increasing the frequency of brushing. This way, it will be possible to properly remove dead hair and impurities. Several suitable brushes are available on the market to adapt to your pet's coat.
Here are our suggestions for in-store tools to help you maintain a soft, healthy coat.
- Babyliss Pro Pet Medium Double Row Rake: This tool features two rows of heat-treated stainless steel pins that can gently penetrate your puppy's fur to remove loose undercoat and dead hair.
- Babyliss Pro Pet Flex Smoothing Brush: This brush features extra long stainless steel pins that are flexible and angled, allowing you to glide the tool through your pet's fur to gently remove mats, tangles and loose hair.
Allergies
Especially present during the spring as in humans, your companion can sometimes have allergies in the fall. Grasses, which are mainly the plants responsible for allergens, pollinate from April to July but can show a resurgence in September/October. Dust mites can also affect your pet during the fall allergy season. In this case, a visit to the vet is in order to treat the itching.
In addition to your veterinary treatment, you can use a shampoo that is suitable for your dog's skin type. Here is an excellent product for sensitive and itchy skin.
- Animeu Shampoo: This natural shampoo enriched with emu oil, colloidal oatmeal and calendula gently cleanses your pet's coat while protecting its delicate epidermis. With its unique formula, Animeu Soothing Shampoo is both a gentle and effective maintenance product, as well as a natural moisturizer that helps soothe itching.
In short, in order to ensure a pleasant fall for your furry friends, it is necessary to maintain the same good habits that you acquired during the summer, while adding more regular brushing!
